ANPAC® feels so strongly that DriveSmart is effective in promoting safe driving, that the company offers a substantial discount on teens’ car insurance rates. This discount rewards proactive families who are involved in their teens’ development as safe drivers, and encourages the youngest drivers to develop safe habits as they learn to drive.
The following discounts are available through DriveSmart*:
- discounts 15% for 16-year-olds
- discounts 12% for 17-year-olds
- discounts 8% for 18-year-olds
Currently, the only device approved by ANPAC® for the DriveSmart program is Inthinc’s Tiwi. Tiwi is a small onboard computer (mounted inside the vehicle) that encourages good driving habits
and can help parents know whether their teens are safe.
Tiwi is set apart from other monitoring devices because it uses GPS technology to compare a driver’s speed and location to a database of street-by-street posted speed limits. Other devices compare vehicle speed only to a predetermined speed limit regardless the vehicle’s location.
GPS technology also makes it possible for Tiwi to provide feedback to parents and teens in real time (as it happens), and it allows parents to make sure their teens arrived at their intended destination. With Tiwi, parents have access to their teens’ whereabouts and driving behavior at any time. Learn more about the Tiwi device.
*Discounts can vary by state and apply to Bodily Injury Liability, Property Damage Liability, Medical Payments, and Collision coverage premiums for qualifying private passenger vehicles.
